Plans to accept a new corporate partnership were approved by the Sevier County Board of Education this week.
The partnership will be between adidas, the popular sports company, and Sevier County Schools.
The acceptance of this partnership will allow for a 35 percent discount on apparel and a 40 discount of footwear for adidas products.
In addition, according to Chris McCarty the Board Attorney for Sevier County Schools, adidas will also make charitable donation to the schools, although the details to these contributions are as of yet unknown.
“This partnership will focus on softball, baseball, basketball, football, and soccer,” McCarty said.
Jim Wade, Sevier County Assistant Super Attendant of Personnel, said the program is similar to the school’s agreements with other venders such as Coca-Cola or Pepsi. One clear advantage of the program is it may allow for schools to order less expensive uniforms for sports programs.
“The principals of each school will be able to decide if the program is beneficial for to their school,” Wade said. “They don’t have to use it.”
Wade explained Sevier County Schools first became aware of this project because Alcoa and Maryville Schools also have the same partnership with adidas.
“We wanted all the students in the area to have the same opportunity,” Wade said.
The program is slated to start during the next school year.
