Next Friday the 29th, the Sevier County residents will have an opportunity to meet and greet the 8th District Incumbent State Senator Raymond Finney and three of his opponents at a debate.

The debate, sponsored by the Right To Life organization, will be an important event that anyone interested in the future of Sevier County and the state should attend.

The consequences of actions today affect tomorrow in so many ways.

The evening is planned to give the audience a close look at how and what the candidates think about our local community.

By local, I’m referring to Sevier and Blount Counties, which the 8th District serves.

As I am going to be one of the moderators of the evening, I will be particularly interested in hearing their thoughts on Healthcare, Infrastructure, Education, Taxes and the Economy.

As you might imagine, local issues will dominate the discussions.

I don’t expect anyone showing up carrying signs and wearing matching T-Shirts supporting their candidate, but you never know.

I’m also curious to see who shows up early to work the crowd inside before the debate begins.

The debate will be cordial. We shall see which candidate(s) spend the night agreeing with the majority of the other candidates on the questions asked. Or will there be a standout.

It’s never easy to unseat an incumbent.

It’s important for community involvement in finding out the real issues of greatest importance, so I indulge you to send me any of your concerns and or questions you feel should be asked of the candidates.

Email them to publisher@seymourherald.com along with your name and phone number.

So many people have the time to complain but never enough time to actually take positive action.

The first step is to be informed. There is no better way than to meet the candidates in person.

The next step is to get out vote.

Two of the Republican candidates are Douglas Overbey and James Bishop. The third candidate, Ira Lapides is an Independent.

Just take a look at all the millions of dollars spent by Obama and Hillary trying to get every last vote out there.

Don’t think for one minute that your vote doesn’t count. It does.

See you Friday evening, the 29th at 6:00 PM at the Sevier County Courthouse.

Just checking, do you mean Thursday, the 29th, or Friday the 30th?

Wrongo. every vote doesn't count. check the 2000 presidential election results if you still believe that. Or ask a Florida or Michigan Democrat.

And it was the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE that refused to count the DEMOCRAT votes in the primaries!! Seems that IF one follows the rules things will pan out. As far as 2000...it was the DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE that initiated that fiasco...seems tha DEMOCRATS don't want ALL the votes counted!
