The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is pleased to announce our Freedom Train 2008 – a celebration of heritage and patriotism. The train departs the Bryson City Depot at 10:30am on Saturday, May 3rd. This 4-1/2 hour excursion carries you 44-miles to the Nantahala Gorge and back again. Travel along the Tuckasegee & Nantahala Rivers – across Fontana Lake on a trestle bridge spanning 780ft. across and 100ft. above the lake. 

Registered Scouts & Scout Leaders (1-12th grade) are $15.00. Chaperones, as well as Veterans in uniform, are $22.00. Ticket price for adult scout family members are $40.00, children scout family members (2-12) are $20.00. Regular adult admissions are $49.00, children (2-12) are $29.00. A portion of all ticket sales and all donations will benefit the Daniel Boone Council Boy Scouts of America. 

Free Hot Dogs & Apple Pie will be served to scouts, veterans, and their families at the Nantahala Outdoor Center during the layover (12:55am to 1:55pm). Sponsors for the event include Coca-Cola, Oscar Mayer, and Old Fashion Apple Pie.
