A one of a kind trip to the Bluegrass State was enjoyed by a group of travelers from Super Partners. A four day trip to Louisville, Kentucky began with an evening at the Derby Dinner Playhouse for a wonderful dinner and performance of “Father of the Bride”.
The fun continued as the travelers made their way the next morning to the legendary Churchill Downs. The group was greeted by the Churchill Downs Bugler with “The Call to the Post.” After being escorted to the Jockey Club Suites for a “Dawn at the Downs” breakfast buffet, a “behind the scenes” tour was taken. No trip to Churchill Downs would be complete without taking a tour of the Kentucky Derby Museum!
After a short drive to Bardstown, the travelers were treated to a “Taste of Kentucky” lunch at My Old Kentucky State Park where songwriter Stephen Foster, writer of the Kentucky State Song My Old Kentucky Home and others is given tribute. The Stephen Foster Singers serenaded the group with famous ballads written by the composer. While in Bardstown, the group also enjoyed time at the Heaven Hill Bourbon Heritage Center to see the tradition of making bourbon and how it has had an effect on the area.
While Louisville is known for race horses, the travelers were given the opportunity to visit an actual Saddlebred Horse Farm, Undulata – located in nearby Shelbyville. A short drive to the Claudia Sanders Dinner House led to yet another wonderful Kentucky style dinner – complete with entertainment from an all female “beauty” shop quartet!
The next morning the traveler’s found themselves in the heart of Louisville for opportunities to visit Glassworks, the Louisville Slugger Museum and factory tour, and the Frazier International History Museum. All within walking distance, each location offered a wide range for a variety of interests.
The final evening was spent onboard the Belle of Louisville. Wonderful food and entertainment was enjoyed while traveling on the Ohio River that evening. Then a special riverfront fireworks display was enjoyed by all who took part in “Celebrate Louisville!”
“This tour was packed with activities,” said trip coordinator Lisa Radmore. “The highlight for most of us was the visit to Churchill Downs and Undulata horse farm. We certainly felt we were on hallowed grounds and were given special and preferential treatment at both places.”
