The Comedy Barn Theater's® Miss Ellie, one of 12 semi-finalists in the All-American Dog Food Pet Brand Cutest Dog Competition, didn't get selected as one of the final four finalists in the contest, but she did raise $25,500 for the Sevier County Humane Society.
Miss Ellie, a 16-year old Chinese Crested hairless dog and a member of the Comedy Barn Theater® Canines, was the winner of Week 5 of the 12 weeks of contest voting. A panel of judges appointed by the All American Pet Brands Company chose the winning final four dogs. The winner of the four semi-finalists and the $1 million dollar Grand Prize winner will be announced on Thanksgiving Day and can be seen at www.cutestdogcompetition.com. David Fee, co-owner of the Comedy Barn Theater® in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and sponsor of Miss Ellie had said that if Miss Ellie won the Cutest Dog Competition he and Miss Ellie's owner, Dawn Goehring would donate the entire $1 million dollar Grand Prize to the local Sevier County Humane Society.
“She got this far because of all of you,” said Jim Hedrick, co-owner of the Comedy Barn Theater®. “We want to thank the entire community for supporting Miss Ellie.”
Hedrick announced that Miss Ellie received more votes than any of the other 60,000 dogs entered into the contest and was awarded a $500.00 cash prize as Week 5 winner in the contest. Miss Ellie's owner, Dawn Goehring donated the prize money to the Sevier County Humane Society.
The Sevier County Humane Society has an annual operating budget of $355,0000. The county's three cities give a combined 50 percent and the humane society's board of directors is expected to generate the other 50 percent. A third of the budget comes from community support, Worden said.
Anyone who would like to contribute tax-deductible monetary donations should send a check to the Sevier County Humane Society, P.O. Box 976, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863 or 959 Gnatty Brandch Road, Sevierville, TN 37876 or visit http://www.sevierlibrary.org/humane/index.htm to make an online credit card donation. They can be reached at 865-453-7000.
