Seymour seventh grade teachers Pat Shope and Tina Large combined their classes, took them outside and had a great science class. The leson was to illustrate the Valdez oil spill of 1989. The fact that it costs billions of dollars couldn’t do as much as Mother Nature did in cleaning up the oil spill.

The class simulated the same oil spill trying to come up with a plan is effective. The students got to choose five items to use to clean up. Items such as panty hose, drinking straws, corrugated card board, aluminum foil, newspaper, and sponges.

“We saw a lot of creative plane,” Shope told the SeymourHerald.
