In the late ‘80’s Dan Rateike had been riding motorcycles for a couple of years when he noticed that some of the items on the bikes could have more of a shine. So he started polishing parts on his bike at home.
His friends noticed how great his bike looked. Soon thereafter the buddies one by one began asking Dan if he would do to their bikes what he did to his.
Dan had a knack for polishing.
The word got out.
Soon local dealers were standing in line to have Dan do his magic on their bikes.
They were bringing $15,000 and $20,000 bikes to get professionally polished.
“And that’s when the fun began,” Jill told the Seymour Herald as Dan was in the back working on the bikes.
Now they, through their business Perfection Worx, do everything from the basic maintenance, oil and filter change to rebuilding entire engines.
They install nitrous, do powder coating, chroming, tracing electrical problems, custom fabrication, custom exhaust pipes, change tires and of course all types of polishing, especially of cylinder heads entire engines plus powder coat them. Even bikes that have been in an accident can be rebuilt with OEM parts, just like at a dealer.
Besides all the normal specialty tools and hoists, the business even has a high tech computerized wheel changer and balancer to deal with the $1000 wheels that need new tires and balancing.
“Dan pays close attention to detail,” says Jill. “He makes sure that even the tire changer has rubber covers to not damage the wheels in any way.”
“Basically, we do everything here at Perfection Worx and on almost all bikes, except the older ones as parts are hard to get,” Jill said.
According to Jill, you get a good deal when you come thru that door and they want to be a one stop shop.
“We are down to earth and give people good deals and that’s how we have been able to build a large clientele,” she said.
Dan owns at least three top notch modified “crotch rockets” that draw attention where ever they are.
Recently one of the bikes won First Place in a Knoxville Bike Show. He appropriately named it the “Mountain Dew” bike, which is his pride and joy.
It sits in the window at the Perfection Worx Business located in the Seymour Business Park surrounded by neon lights. A true site to see.
Nearly $30,000 of upgrades and the bike even sports a wheel spinner.
The Rateike’s moved their business to Seymour from the Clinton area because of location.
“We really liked the area being between Gatlinburg, Knoxville and Maryville and wanted to be more centrally located to our customers,” Jill said.
Dan said that so many local riders have stopped to welcome them here that it’s been a great move.
The Rateike’s are planning an Open House in the near future to show case their talents and abilities.
If you can’t wait until the Open House and you need to get a hold of Perfection Worx at 865 577 1120, located at 500, Suite C, Maryville Hwy, Seymour, in the Seymour Business Park on Hwy 411.
