Closer to home, construction teams have been to Lafayette, Tn. and Manna Ministries, Maryville. Trips in the near future are planned for Kingston, Tn., southwest Virginia, and Mississippi. Almost every week teams are involved in local construction projects for folks who have emergency needs.
First Baptist Church wishes to thank the Seymour community for its generous support of these mission efforts through gifts of time, money and materials; donations for and purchases at the missions rummage sales and auctions; and most of all, for the prayer support.
The church’s latest fund raiser for missions is an aluminum can recycling bin located adjacent to the Knoxville side of the church parking lot. Seymour residents are invited to bring their empty aluminum cans to the bin at any time–day or night. Yes, "We can!" for missions.
Seymour First Baptist Church continues to accept vehicles (cars, trucks, tractors) in any condition for its annual missions auction. For more information call 573-4934 or 577-1954.

I offer congratulations to Seymour First Baptist Church. A church is obedient to God's Word, when it spreads the Gospel. A church also grows more and stronger, if its congregants have something concrete to do and support-- especially missions, in which good is done for pure reasons for strangers. Joe, I have an idea that would be of interest to me and, perhaps, other readers. It would be interesting for you to post a monthly report, listing each Sevier County church which had a mission project that month, the city/ country visited, the number of participants, and the type of mission (evangelical, medical, contruction, etc.).
I'm really not interested in watching the churches in our area get into a rivalry with their projects. Church projects missionary or otherwise are usually performed from the heart of the church regarding something the people feel passionate about. Listing the projects and who is involved will do nothing more than turn projects into a sports event. If a church needs help or wants to share a success, I'm sure whatever media outlet the church chooses will be notified.
I assure you this is not a rivalry. This church does wonderful work !
To #2: I certainly did not mean such a list to promote inter-church rivalry. Rather, I suggest such a list to serve as an inspiration for all churches. Also, smaller churches might join together to engage in mission projects that a small church might lack enough members and resources to accomplish. If it did foster rivalry and bragging, however, I agree the list would be a bad idea.
I believe there is a Bible verse that states something to the fact that Christians are to perform good works without recognition. Wouldn't a newspaper article (including this one) be considered recognition? Just asking.
