The 15th Annual Foothills Classic Marching Band Competition took place this past Saturday at on the grounds of Seymour High School.
Once again, the Seymour High School Marching Eagles have presented Seymour in a positive fashion to the 2,500 plus attendees.
This was the first year as of the last 12 years, that Michael Carter was not the band director. Rhett Butler, his replacement headed up this year’s event.
“I had a lot of good help from Mr. Carter,” Butler told the Seymour Herald. ”I think it’s been very smooth, if I had any questions, Michael has been so approachable, he’s been so helpful in getting this transmission.”
School bands from as far away as Rhea County made up the 19 total marching bands that participated this extremely well attended event.
The official opening was held at 11:00 AM with the Tellico Plains Marching Band performing at noon.
Each band performed their half-time show in front of the audience and judges. The shows the bands performed was the culmination of months of preparation, practice, persistence, hard work and devotion.
Many of the bands practiced their performances from 8:00 AM until 9:00 PM for many days.
The Seymour Marching Eagles Marching Band hosted the day long event. The members not only performed their show, but also worked the concession booths as well as tour and info guides to all the visiting high school members, their parents and supporters.
Each marching band has approximately from 30 to 200 members which translates to about 2,500 people in attendance.
“It was an awesome family day of entertainment for the admission price of $5.00 per person,” stated Tom Fitzharris, SHS Marching Band Public Relations Director.
“While our event highlights the music and talents of all the students, the home made food and festival fare was by far a big delight to everyone. The good food served at any Seymour Marching Band function has always garnered great reviews,” stated Fitzharris.
This event was very successful, but could not have been possible without the support of the local community business including The Seymour Herald, Realty Executives Advantage, Wanda Hendryx, J & H Automotive, Connies Kitchen, Ron’s Open Flame, Volunteer Vette and Camel Custom Tents.
Next year’s 16th Annual Foothills Classic Marching Band Competition has already been set for October 3rd, 2009. Set your calendars.
