sevier county audit shows improvement

The recently completed 2009 Tennessee state audit of Sevier County shows improvement from the 2008 audit.
“These findings reflect the efforts made to ensure the county’s business is conducted in the correct way,” said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters. “I’m pleased that we keep improving in the eyes of the state auditors.”
According to the report, “the audit disclosed no instances of noncompliance that are material to the financial statements of Sevier County” and “the audit disclosed no significant deficiencies in internal control over major programs.”
“Based on the size of our county, the low number of findings is excellent,” said Sevier County Finance Director Cheryl Houston. “We’re continually working to make our government run more efficiently for our citizens.”
County governments are required to be audited each year, either by the state of Tennessee or by a private company, for which the county must pay.
Sevier County will be audited again in 2010.
