The Knoxville Museum of Art's Alive After Five music series presents the Johnson Swingtet on Friday, July 17, from 5:30 - 8:00 pm.
Inspired by the jazz music of 1930s-‘50s, the Johnson Swingtet draws its muse from the great jazz artists of the past to create one hot swing revue. Their influences range from Django Reinhardt to Bob Wills, the band plays a mix of both hot and sultry acoustic swing, jazz, and Latin tunes.
The Swingtet is comprised of an eclectic group of talented musicians. Lead guitarist and singer Kukuly Uriarte is a student of music from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who also performs South American folk music. Cellist Andy Bryenton is principal cellist for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and long time member of the musical community. Rhythm guitarist and singer Eugene Johnson is also a founding member of the Knoxville Persian Music Ensemble. Brandon Beavers performs double duty on double bass and mandolin.
