Several young Christians from Jefferson County spent an afternoon converting 55-gallon soybean oil containers into rain barrels.  They are members of the Dandridge First United Methodist Youth Group (DFUMC-Youth Group) and are selling rain barrels to raise money for Youth missions here and in Kenya.

A portion of the money raised will be sent to the Christian Mission to Learners (CML) in the Rongo District of the Nyanza Province, Kenya to assist in the purchase of a large water storage tank (see picture attached to this email) and guttering system.  The large water storage tank is necessary to store water for use during the non-rainy season.

Together, the guttering system and large water storage tank (10,000 liter tank) could provide an abundance of clean drinking water for the CML. The cost of the tank itself is 80,000 Kenyan shillings - or about $1,000 USD and the guttering with materials & labor is about $500 USD.
