The Seymour High School Drama and Debate Team competed on November 7, 2009 at Morristown West High School at the 21st Annual Chestnut Tree Invitational.
Students competed in a variety of competitions. This was the first time that another Sevier County School, Sevier County High School, also competed. Until this time, Seymour has been the only school in Sevier County with a debate team.
In the Public Forum Debate completion Seymour placed first, second and fourth. "It was so exciting when the posted who would be competing against each other for first place and it was Seymour VS Seymour," stated Debate and Drama Coach Danielle Smallwood. The team competed against 21 other team from across Tennessee.
First place went to the team of Ashley Harvey and Andrew Turner; second place victors included Paige Taylor and David Monghi and fourth place went to the team of Cara Monghi and Kayla Clabo.
