The annual school field-day gave Seymour Middle School students a break from classrooms and chalkboards this week and allowed them to spend a few hours outdoors while partaking in such events as water-balloon tosses and 50-yard dashes as the 2007/2008 school year winds down with June 2—the final day of classes at SMS—fast approaching.

The sixth-graders at SMS enjoyed their field day on Monday while the seventh-graders had their day on Tuesday and the eighth-graders did their field day activities on Wednesday.

SMS physical education teacher Scott Norman said field day is always an anticipated event for students and teachers alike.

“It’s a good time,” said Norman, who was overseeing simultaneous games of flag football and softball while two other SMS teachers were directing the egg-toss competition in the adjacent field behind the school. “It gives both the kids and teachers a chance to spend some time outdoors and have some fun.”
