In between threatening showers, the 2009 Seymour Middle School Homecoming celebration turned out to be a rousing success.  The homecoming queens were presented at halftime.  The Eagles football team was defeated by Union Grove Middle 42 to 30 but it was an exciting action packed game filled with plenty of offense.  The weather was perfect for all the beautiful homecoming queen candidates and their escorts who were mostly very proud Dads.  The girls were dressed in their evening attire and the Dads mostly wore coats and ties.  Camera flashes resembled a lightning storm going off continuously during the halftime ceremony.
The sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes were represented by several candidates in each grade one from each classroom.
The crowned queens were Reid Ballard – sixth grade, Kelsie Jones – seventh grade and Blakely Graham – eighth grade.  They are the daughters of Matt and Michelle Ballard, Chuck and Michelle                Jones and Joe and Mitzi Graham.
The queens were presented flowers by Seymour Middle School principal Faye Nelson.
All the girls are beautiful outstanding students and people.  The winners were based on a fund raising campaign.  The girl who collected the most money was selected as the queen.
The Seymour Eagle football team fell a little short in making homecoming a perfect evening by losing the football game, but they played in an impressive manner on offense.  The defensive effort fell short however.  Outstanding players for the Eagles were quarterback Nick Sexton and running back Tanner Sise.  Union Grove countered on offense with Brandon Tipton and Peyton Wall.
Early in the game, Sexton connected with Sise on a 28 year touchdown pass.  The two point conversion failed and Seymour took an early lead.
After a long drive, Tipton of Union Grove countered with a five yard touchdown run.  The conversion failed and the score was 6-6.  He then broke a 42 yard run for a TD.  The conversion was good and score stood 14-6 with 1:52 left in the first quarter.
Sise countered for Seymour with a 59 yard run for a TD.  Kennedy converted on a two pointer and the score stood 14-14.  Union Grove put together two long plays of 59 and 52 yards to take a 28 -14 point lead.  Another Sexton to Sise pass made it 28-22 at the half.
The second half was more of the same with long scoring plays by both teams including a long touchdown run by, whom else, Tanner Sise.  Peyton Wall countered for Union Grove with a 50 yard run.
The bottom line is that both teams were loaded with offense and short on defense.
The final score was 42-30 Union Grove.
Even losing the game, the evening was a success. The weather cooperated, the game was exciting, the queens were radiant and the stands were packed.
